Rev. Michael Schultz
The Rev. Michael D. Schultz is the director of the Hymnal Project of the Wisconsin Evangelical Lutheran Synod. Schultz accepted the project director call in late 2012.
Prior to that, Schultz served as a parish pastor at Sola Fide Lutheran Church in Lawrenceville, GA, from 2001-2012. For five years, from 2003-2008, he also served as the chairman of the Hymns Committee for Christian Worship: Supplement, and compiled its guitar edition. After the completion of the supplement, Schultz was asked to build the midi files and m4a recordings for an update of the Christian Worship media player called HymnSoft.
Schultz began his pastoral ministry in 1989, at Mt. Calvary Lutheran in Flagstaff, AZ. It was there that he served together with C.T. Aufdemberge, the congregation’s choir director and also the author of Christian Worship: Handbook.
Schultz’s interests in composing, guitar performance for worship, and writing hymn texts have surfaced in recent years. His love for the hymns of the church he attributes in part to the fine singing of the same, modeled by his father, who served as a pastor in MI for many years. Schultz and his wife Karen both grew up in small towns near Flint, MI. They currently live in Waukesha, WI where they attend Trinity Lutheran. They have three children and two grandchildren.
